History + Motivations:

✘ Kreeth was born just under nine hundred years ago in the N'yarthghar region of Lemurés. This was, on the grand scale of things, not long after the formation of the Ridorana Cataract. A result of the Al Bhed super-weapon Vegnagun and the ultimate Aeon Sin going head to head, the Cataract is a hole in the ocean a short distance away from the edge of the Lemurés purvama. Given the method by which the Cataract was created, a considerable amount of Mist was released in the clash and it positively flooded Lemurés, greatly affecting crop growth, wildlife and people of the region.

✘ Among those affected were the Aegyl people of N'yarthghar, or the Northern Kingdoms. The Northern Kingdoms, always cold, reached news lows in temperature and life became harder than ever. Wars and skirmishes over territory broke out regularly and treaties were maintained between the Kings, Lords, Chieftains and the High Kings of the time to ensure that bloodshed was kept to a minimum.

✘ As if heavy environmental changes and damage weren't bad enough, some of the Aegyl were directly affected by the Mist and suffered Mist Mutations that affected them both aesthetically and magically. Not only did the changes brought about by the Mist grant them unusual power due to a virtually unknown combination of Chakra Natures, it also gave them an unpleasant and decidedly dark appearance, characterised by greyish skin, black hair and ragged black wings. These Mistant Aegyls, named Hagsfiends in reference to the Spiran 'Hell' for their unpleasant appearance and abilities, grew to be feared, reviled and, ultimately, driven out of regular society.

✘ Kreeth herself is the child of two Hagsfiends and is, as such, a 'pure' Hagsfiend rather than simply being a Mistant Aegyl of the first generation. Blessed with natural talent and studious diligence, Kreeth became proficient in the Nachtmagen of their race rather quickly and moved far beyond the magical abilities typically learned by them.

✘ During her early life, she reached levels of mastery and achieved feats with the Nachtmagen that others could only dream of. An accomplished Nachtmage and Alkahest, she used a combination of these arts to put herself well ahead of the majority of her peers who were, it had to be said, rather more interested in the bloody battles and grisly skirmishes of the age with only a few exceptions.

✘ While Kreeth was (and is) not averse to killing -- no Hagsfiend really was -- she tended against mindless slaughter and only did so to further her studies or in self defence. That said, she is, of course, just as vicious in the art of battle as the rest of her kind.

✘ During the N'yrthghar wars, things turned more unpleasant than ever when Lord Arrin formed an alliance with Hagsfiends of all levels, sellswords, assassins and mages, to take the Northern Kingdoms for themselves and obtain more freedom under him than they had ever been given under the rule of the High King H'rathmore, or his son King H'rath. Ultimately, King H'rath was killed in battle. His wife, Queen Siv, pregnant with his child, got away and the child, obviously of royal blood, became the object of a search so that he could be turned towards their ends.

✘ Kreeth was counted among that number and she played her part in the background, behind the scenes, as opposed to on the front lines. Instead of ice swords and battle claws, she used her magic to achieve her goals. It was during this period that she was marked as a l'Cie and given a focus -- bring the would-be king, child of Siv, to the final battlefield. While Kreeth managed to achieve this goal, it was not in a fashion that she would have liked. Although she failed to capture him directly, he nonetheless made his appearance in the location specified by the fal'Cie in her Focus due to her machinations and manipulation of those involved. As a result, she was sealed in Crystal.

✘ Hundreds of years later, in the Modern Age, another disturbance in the Mist (the collapse of a Remnant a few years before the destruction of the Gongaga Reactor) was enough to put an end to Kreeth's Crystal sleep. She awoke to find the world a changed place. Hagsfiends like herself had been hunted down in the wake of the war and were rarely seen in this modern age. Nachtmagen was all but gone. Alkahestry had been perfected enough that it was no longer an 'art', but a convenience. The Hyur in the regions of Lemurés that they populated, the areas they referred to as Gran Pulse, had been all but wiped out. The gods had gone mad, she'd heard, mad because the Mist. Magic was commonplace. Many Aegyls had moved from Lemurés to Jylland following a period of calm after the war she had participated in. Then, due to an Aegyl/Hyur war, many had moved back to repopulate the Northern Kingdoms. Hundreds of years after that, many had fled once again to Jylland after a long series of battles known as the War of the Ice Talons, and relatively recently, at that. Technology was almost at the same levels on the mainland as she'd heard about back before she had become a l'Cie.

✘ Unable to stay on Lemurés because of her race, she made the long flight to Jylland alone. There, stories of Hagsfiends and the ancient war were not as prolific as on Lemurés, so she was treated with only as much disdain and distrust as Mistants of other species. She quickly learned the language, one entirely different to her normal Krakish, by observation and immersion. When she had grown fluent or near it, she obtained a License. She schooled herself in the history of both Jylland and Ivalice, and in modern magic, both restorative and offensive. She made something of a name for herself in a magical sense within Fluorgis. It was due to this that she was approached by a representative of Clan Khamja for a job.

✘ She ultimately declined on the grounds that she was not and never would be a lowly hireclaw, but was offered a preferable alternative -- to join on a permanent basis. She joined, completed the job (now an induction task, or something to prove herself) and has been a member since. Her reasons for agreeing to join are entirely scientific ones -- she, like the others who maintain membership for the same reason, uses the organisation for funding and as cover for her more unpleasant experiments.

✘ Due to her experiments, interests and methods, it puts her at odds with a number of the other members who have rival interests or similar scientific fields as she does, most notably Professor Hojo and Orochimaru (now deceased).
